Francois Cazenave
Francois' research focuses on internal waves in Monterey Bay. He
uses data from MBARI's Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), from
the US Naval Postgraduate School's Monterey Inner Shelf Observatory
(MISO),
and from the MLML
CICORE Carmel Bay mooring to investigate internal waves in southern
Monterey and Carmel Bay. His goal is to help understand the evolution
of internal waves as they propagate between the outer shelf and
inner shelf in this region.

Dustin Carroll
Dustin works on the CSU - CICORE
ocean observing program and his thesis research seeks to investigate
and characterize the near-shore oceanographic processes and dynamics
that contribute to the unique ecosystem and physical environment
in Stillwater Cove, in Carmel Bay, California. Specifically this
study uses moored time series data (Stillwater
Cove mooring) and hydrographic data to focus on how oceanographic
and terrestrial inputs control the availability of important nutrients
inside kelp reefs and within the Cove.

Lauren Sassoubre
Lauren is interested in the resuspension and transport of sediments
and nutrients off the shelf. Her thesis focuses on intermediate
nepheloid layers (INLs) observed in Soquel canyon, one of the main
tributaries of the Monterey Canyon. Intermediate nepheloid layers
are potentially important mechanisms by which sediments and nutrients
are resuspended and transported laterally from continental margins,
influencing sediment distribution, and vertically, influencing biological
processes in the nearshore environment
