MERIS Time Series
● January 2005 Reprocessing Information
Satellite band averaged data: water-leaving radiance, surface irradiance
and solar normalized water-leaving radiance. These values are given as the mean flux (not the total flux)
for each band. The total and in-band averages are calculated for each satellite.
A separate data listing (denoted by it's hour) is presented when MOBY collects more than one file per day.
Six water-leaving radiances can be calculated from different
combinations of MOBY four radiance collectors. The best water-leaving radiance
is Lw1, determined from the upper two arms. If MOBY's top arm is damaged then Lw7 is included.
The UV problem seen in M238 has continued in to this deployment. The UV region of LuMid is slowly continuing to decrease, causing the Kls calculated from LuMid to be either too high or too low, which affected the Lws calculated using these Kls. Once the data is satellite weighted the blue bands (412, 443 and 490 nm ) Lws seem to be too high. However even blue bands of the Lws calculated without using LuMid are also too high . The only conclusion is the higher blue bands is not caused by the UV problem. A eight day running mean was calculated for deployments 20-38. This long term running mean was then compared to the deployment 40 running mean for Lw1: SeaWiFS band 1 was 4.6- 8.8% higher than the long term mean, band 2 was 3 - 6.7% higher and band 3 was 0.8 - 3.7 % higher. The percent differences were slightly less for Lw7. It should be noted tha even though these bands are higher than the mean much of the data is within one standard deviation of the mean. Hopefully the post deployment calibrations will shed more light on why the blue bands are higher than expected.
